What is there to see and do in Wetherby?
The River Wharfe which flows through the area not only brings a lovely ambience to the southern part of town, but also provides you with the chance to enjoy relaxing walks as you follow its course. Cross Wetherby Bridge as you make your way to Kanyu Escape just south of the centre, visit the Georgian Bathhouse and head to Sandringham Park with its kids’ playground.
There’s so much to see and do away from the heart of town too, including places like Bramham Park, Harewood House and Plumpton Rocks with its interesting rock formations. Visit the array of local castles, spend the day in Harrogate or York, and head to the 2,000-acre Stockfield Park to either have some fun at the summer adventure park or pick your Christmas tree during the winter months.
What is education like in Wetherby?
There are a number of excellent schools in the local area, including central primary schools St Joseph’s Catholic Primary and Crossley Street Primary, as well as St Edward’s Catholic Primary in neighbouring Boston Spa. All these schools are rated as outstanding by Ofsted.
There are two local secondary schools which are classed as good by the education board, and which both have large catchment areas that cover the surrounding region. They are Wetherby High School and Boston Spa Academy. The West Oaks Specialist School and College in also in Boston Spa. It’s in Ofsted’s outstanding bracket and caters for children aged between two and 19.
How are the transport links in Wetherby?
Wetherby has a great location within West Yorkshire. With the A1(M) passing just to the east of town, places like Leeds, Harrogate and York are all less than half an hour’s drive away. The town doesn’t have its own train station, but there are plenty of local bus services if you don’t have a car. Leeds Bradford Airport meanwhile is less than 15 miles away.
