Things to see and do
Methley is close to one of Yorkshire’s most popular family attractions, Diggerland Yorkshire, while Swithens Farm and Play Barn, Castleford Museum and The Hepworth Wakefield are also nearby. If you like getting out in the great outdoors, there are lots of natural spaces to explore including the grounds of Temple Newsam, Anglers Country Park and RSPB Fairburn Ings.
For sports fans, you can go skiing, snowboarding or bowling at the Xscape leisure complex in Castleford, play laser tag at Battlefield Leeds or burn some calories at Gravity Trampoline Park. If you want to practice your swing, Whitwood Golf Course is only a short drive away from the village.
When you’re in the mood for some retail therapy, Leeds is home to Trinity Leeds shopping centre, as well as Kirkgate Market, Victoria Leeds and Grand Arcade. The city also has a number of cultural attractions including the Royal Armouries Museum and the Grand Theatre.
Education
For families moving to the area, it’s good to know there are a number of excellent schools to choose from within easy reach of Methley. Martin Frobisher Infant School, Lee Brigg Infant and Nursery School and Garforth Academy are all rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, while independent education is on offer nearby at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Wakefield Girls’ High School.

Getting to Methley
Methley is well-connected to nearby towns and cities by road, with the M62 and M1 both nearby. Although there’s no train station in the village, there are rail connections nearby in Castleford and Woodlesford, with services to Leeds city centre taking around 15 minutes.
Travelling by car, the journey from Leeds to Methley takes 20 minutes via the A639 depending on traffic, while the journey from Pontefract and Wakefield also takes around 20 minutes. From York, Methley is only a 45 minute drive away, while the journey from London takes three hours 45 minutes by car via the M1, or just two hours 15 minutes by train to Leeds.
When it’s time to jet off on holiday, the journey to Leeds Bradford Airport by car takes 40 minutes.
