Railway stations including Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge are on the Borders Railway Line, a scenic route connecting the capital with the Scottish borders.
A journey from Dalkeith to Edinburgh takes around 20 minutes by car, while Gorebridge is 30 minutes away from the capital depending on traffic. From Eskbank Station, the train journey into Edinburgh Waverley takes just under 20 minutes.

If you like to get active, Midlothian Snowsports Centre is a great place to practice your skiing and Snowboarding skills. Golf courses in the local area include Broomieknowe Golf Club, Glencorse Golf Club and Kings Acre Golf Course.
For family days out, there are lots of places to visit in Midlothian including the National Mining Museum, Loanhead Memorial Park, and Roslin Glen Country Park. Edinburgh is also close enough for day-trips where you can explore Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and the Scottish National Gallery.
