Things to see and do in Ormiston
The village has a quaint and charming centre, which you’ll enjoy as you wander past the Ormiston Market Cross and ancient trees like the spectacular Great Yew of Ormiston. Winton House is a historic castle just east of town, while a little south of there you’ll find the popular Glenkinchie Distillery, known for its single malt whisky.
Moving further away from the village you’ll find open spaces such as Vogrie Country Park, while seaside town Prestonpans is only four miles north. In the opposite direction are the beautiful Lowlands where you can get lost for days on end exploring, while the bustling centre of Edinburgh is only around 10 miles away for all your cultural needs.
Education
The local school for younger children is Ormiston Primary School on Meadowbank, next to which you’ll find a play park which opens up to the Tyne Water river and miles of open countryside. The closest secondary school to the village is Ross High School, which is three miles to the north in Tranent.
Ormiston transport links
Ormiston isn’t far from the A1 which makes its way along the coast, and you can join up with this road to drive to Edinburgh in less than half an hour. It’s just over 10 minutes to Prestonpans, which is home to the nearest train station to Ormiston, and it’s a little more than that to Musselburgh. If you want to drive over to Glasgow, that’s a journey of around an hour along the M8 motorway.
