  • North Ayrshire is a coastal area of Scotland located southwest of Glasgow. Irvine is the largest town in the region, with other towns include Kilwinning, West Kilbride, Fairlie, Largs, Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenson. The area also encompass the Isle of Arran and the Cumbrae Isles, meaning new homes in North Ayrshire benefit from a variety of landscapes and facilities.

  • The largest town in North Ayrshire, Irvine, is 40 – 45 minutes away from Glasgow travelling via the M77, or 30 – 40 minutes by train. Train services also run from other towns in the area, with Abellio ScotRail operating the Ayrshire Coast Line, which connects Largs and Ardrossan Harbour to Glasgow Central.

    The Isle of Arran can be reached by ferry between Ardrossan to Brodick, with the journey taking around 55 minutes. There is an additional ferry service between Lochranza and Claonaig during high season. Cumbrae can be reached in 10 minutes by ferry from Largs. 

    Irvine is 15 minutes away from Kilwinning by car, or five minutes by train. Travelling by car, Irvine is also 20 minutes from West Kilbride, 20 minutes from Ardrossan, 25 minutes from Fairlie and 30 minutes from Largs.

    For international travel, Glasgow Prestwick International Airport and Glasgow Airport are a short drive away. Glasgow Airport is a 35 minute drive away from Irvine.

  • As a rural area of Scotland, North Ayrshire has a range of scenic countryside including Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, which offers walking routes, cycle paths and outdoor activities including sailing. There’s also plenty of opportunity to try out water sports on The Cumbraes in the Firth of Clyde.

    Other natural attractions include Great Cumbrae, Little Cumbrae, Holy Isle, Goat Fell, Glen Rosa, Castle Semple Loch; an inland loch spanning 1.5 miles in length. Beinn Tarsuinn is a mountain in the Fisherfield Forest on the Isle of Arran, reaching heights of 937 metres.

    Historic sites in North Ayrshire include the Cathedral of The Idles, Kelburn Castle, Portencross Castle, Brodick Castle and Mount Stuart House. The Scottish Maritime Museum is located in Irvine, while evening entertainment can be enjoyed at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine.

  • There are a number of highly rated schools in the North Ayrshire area, including Largs Academy secondary school. Residents are also close to higher education facilities in Glasgow and The University of the West of Scotland campus in Ayr.
