New Homes in Leicester FAQs

  • If you want to live in an exciting, multicultural city with an excellent location and lots to offer the family, then buying a house in Leicester is well worth your consideration. And you may find it’s a more realistic prospect than you realised, thanks to offers such as our Movemaker scheme, where we’ll pay any estate agent’s fees on your current home for you.
  • A compact city centre means Leicester is ideal for exploring on foot, as you visit landmarks such as the city’s cathedral, castle and Guildhall. Stroll around Abbey Park’s boating lake on your way to the historic abbey, which is just around the corner from the fascinating National Space Museum.  Leicester’s 700-year-old market opposite Town Hall Square’s fountain is open six days a week, while there are lots of wide open natural spaces to enjoy on the outskirts of town, including Watermead Country Park and Bradgate Park.
  • If you have children then you’ll be pleased to know there are some excellent schools in Leicester. Sparkenhoe Community Primary School is right on the edge of the city centre and outstanding according to Ofsted, while Parks Primary School in the New Parks area has been given the same rating.

When it comes to secondary schools, Melton Road’s mixed-sex Rushey Mead Academy is a top performer and like the Beauchamp College in Oadby is rated as outstanding by Ofsted. For the latter, being south east of the city centre in a spot like Wigston will put you in the appropriate catchment area.
  • Part of the East Midlands region, Leicester has excellent transport links for getting around the area and making your way to other parts of the country. The M1 motorway passes to the west of the city centre, while a number of different train routes serve the main central station on London Road.

For holidays abroad, East Midlands Airport is less than 20 miles away, which is a journey you can do in less than half an hour in the car. You can also catch a direct train to the airport, as well as London Luton and London Stansted, while Leicester has a comprehensive bus network for getting around the city.
  • Leicester has a flourishing property scene, so you can be confident of making an excellent investment when you buy a house in or around the city. There are comfortable 4 bedroom new build homes on Newton Lane in Wigston, a variety of lakeside properties ranging from 1 to 4 beds in Lubbesthorpe on the outskirts of town, and modern 2 and 3 bed semi and detached homes on Somerset Avenue close to the city centre.

Whichever area you decide on, make sure you check out our latest offers to see if there are any you can take advantage of, including schemes like our Part Exchange initiative where we save you time and money by acting as a guaranteed buyer on your current home.

Don't forget to take a look at our East Midlands property buying guide, which includes all the information you need to know about buying a home in the East Midlands.

  • Buying your new home with Barratt Homes means benefitting from unique offers. Our Part Exchange Xtra and Movemaker schemes help you sell your existing home while we pay your estate agent fees. If you’re looking for your first home, the Home Reach scheme could help get you on the ladder and reserve your dream home today.

Our low deposit schemes are designed to help you buy your dream home without worrying about the deposit. We can boost it up and support you along the way. And if you’re part of the armed forces, we offer a 5% deposit contribution to help you get on the ladder.

Time for a change? Selling your home with our help to sell schemes is easy. You can forget about estate agent fees and enjoy your new home while we do the legwork. If you’re a key worker, you can benefit from our Key Worker Deposit Contribution scheme.
