Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes South Wales, has today announced the winner of its 2023 Christmas card design competition — 10-year-old Olivia from St Athan Primary School.
The competition is one of many projects the housebuilder has implemented during 2023 to give back to the communities it is building in — with this pen-to-paper activity designed to spark creativity, and possibly even inspire the next generation of housebuilders.

Primary school pupils from across South Wales were invited to take part in the competition — which challenged them to design a festive scene, featuring a home that conveys what Christmas means to them.

A range of entries were received — from cosy living room scenes to Santa flying his sleigh over a house blanketed in snow — but it was Olivia’s intricate design and excellent use of colour that caught the judges’ eyes.

Olivia’s design was chosen to feature on the housebuilder’s regional 2023 Christmas card — which is now bringing festive cheer to the residents of Barratt’s Parc Fferm Wen development in St Athan.

To thank Olivia for her excellent submission, the St Athan Primary School pupil was presented with a festive prize earlier this week.

Lewis Allwood, Marketing Director for Barratt Homes South Wales, said: “We were delighted with all the entries received for our Christmas card competition — it made our task of selecting a winner extremely difficult.
“Judging by the quality of the submissions received, it’s clear that St Athan is home to several planners and architects of the future!”
