    The original University of Northampton once rivalled the Oxbridge institutions but was dissolved by King Henry III after students sided with rebellious barons during the first Battle of Northampton.

    Northampton regained its university in 2005 with an upgrade in status for the University College Northampton. These days the University of Northampton goes from strength to strength with almost 15,000 students enrolled.
